Innsbruck / Tyrol

MCI Innsbruck Surrounding

Innsbruck is located in the midst of a stunning mountain scenery and presents a breathtaking panorama. The contrast between the historic Old Town with its Gothic walkways and the nearby mountains is responsible for the special atmosphere and attraction of Innsbruck. Innsbruck has one of Austria’s most beautiful and best preserved medieval city centers. Today, the Tyrolean capital is a lively modern city offering extensive sports and leisure facilities and a unique ambience for residents and visitors. Innsbruck with its 130,000 inhabitants is a center for business, university, conferences and culture as well as sports and tourism.

The city is located 575 m above sea level; the alpine climate provides cold, snowy winters but relatively short summers. The temperature can sink to below zero in winter and climb to 30 degrees Celsius in summer. The ski season lasts from the beginning of December to mid-April, depending on the altitude. A special characteristic of Innsbruck weather is the strong, warm wind called the ‘Foehn’ (sometimes referred to as ‘chinook’ or ‘St. Anna’s wind’ in English). The Foehn (homophonic to the German word for hair dryer) brings warm, mild weather but can cause headaches to some people. The Foehn is most common in spring and autumn.
